Governor Palin is More Popular Among California Republicans than Meg Whitman
That's what the Field Poll found:Favorable/Unfavorable Among California Republicans Sarah Palin: 74/18Meg Whitman: 72/18Keep in mind too that California Republicans are among the most moderate Republicans in the country. Only 53% of California Republican primary voters in 2008 believed that abortion should be illegal in all or most cases. Nationally, 70% of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents consider themselves pro-life. Whitman would seem to be the perfect fit for such a moderate Republican electorate and yet, Palin is still running ahead of her in favorability among California Republicans and unlike Whitman, Palin hasn't spent a dime to bolster her numbers with such Republicans. I'll also note that Whitman's numbers were among Republicans likely to vote while Palin's numbers were among all registered Republicans. The disparity between Palin and Whitman is likely greater if Field provided us with Whitman's numbers among all registered Republicans. As for the numbers among the wider California electorate, who cares? Disgraced retread candidate Jerry Brown is an overwhelming favorite at this point to defeat Meg Whitman despite the spending disparity between the two. California is a tough state for any Republican and is essentially irrelevant when it comes to presidential politics.I'll also note that Brown and Boxer voters were likely never going to vote for Whitman or Fiorina, respectively. Brown and Boxer are benefitting from the fact that the very liberal electorate of California is now coming home, though Carly appears to have a much better chance than Whitman to pull off the upset. Of course they were going to say they aren't going to be positively influenced by Palin's endorsement.
