Palin Has Effectively the Same Net Favorable Rating as Obama In a New York Congressional District That He Won in 2008

New York's 19th Congressional District had been a congressional district that was originally thought to be moving heavily to the left after the Bush years as Barack Obama won the district by a 51-48 margin. The district was one of those wealthy suburban swing districts that had been thought to be moving towards the Democrat Party permanently and one district for which Governor Palin would not be able to compete should she be the 2012 GOP nominee. However, polling shows that Governor Palin effectively has the same net favorable rating as Obama does in New York's 19th Congressional District. What that means is that contrary to the conventional wisdom, she's polling no worse than Obama in a wealthy suburban swing district that was supposed to off the table should she win the GOP nomination. The Tea Party movement is also a lot more popular than Barack Obama in the district. George W. Bush defeated Al Gore by a small margin in 2000. It appears that as of right now, Governor Palin is in position to do the same.Obviously, New York is not relevant to Palin's political fortunes. However, if the trend in NY-19 is present across the wealthy suburban districts that Obama won in 2008 across the country, then that's good news.
