Palin Leads Obama By 15 in a State that Howard Dean Guaranteed Obama Would Win in 2012

Yes, Howard Dean did say this in early 2009:"I can guarantee you, in 2012, Texas and Missouri are going to be Democratic states and vote for Barack Obama for president of the United States"Well, a new poll out from Lighthouse Opinion Polling & Research shows that Governor Palin would cream President Obama 51%-36% in a hypothetical 2012 match up in my home state of Texas.A couple of things to take away from the poll. First, winning 51%-36% Governor Palin is outperforming the McCain/Palin numbers from 2008. The McCain/Palin ticket won my home state 55%-44% in 2008.Secondly, note who was polled:"The survey of 1,200 Texans who cast ballots in either 2006 or 2008" and "The sample consisted by 36 percent people who had voted in a Republican primary; 32 percent who had voted in a Democratic primary; 9 percent who had voted in both party primaries and 23 percent who were general election voters with no primary voting history."This point is significant because Obama supporters will say Governor Palin is only winning among likely voters because Obama's voters aren't turning out. However, the sample also polled people who cast their ballots in either 2006 or 2008, so Obama supporters weren't screened out. Finally, the sample also is not tilted very far Republican. Texas is still a very red state and will continue to be so even after districts are re-aligned and electoral votes added next year due to census numbers.By the way, the poll also shows Governor Rick Perry will win re-election easily over former Houston Mayor Bill "Sanctuary City" White 48%-37%.
