So Which Is It - 'Stupid' Or 'Mean'?

Isn?t it time we forced liberals like Maureen Dowd and Aaron Sorkin to at least be consistent in their favorite pastime? There?s only so long they can get away with completely contradicting themselves every time they insult an American political icon, right?

For two years now our liberal "betters" have told us ad nauseum that Governor Palin, the youngest person to serve as governor of Alaska and the second woman ever to run for vice president -- is stupid. Chrissy Snow stupid. We've been led to believe that Gov. Palin is the kind of ditsy naif who doesn't read newspapers and who might think a trip to the Beehive beauty salon for an "up do" constitutes "higher" learning.
?

"Stupid"
But lately these same sophisticates would have us believe that Gov. Palin is also incredibly mean -- nothing like the lovable Chrissy Snow, but more like Snow White's Evil Stepmother. The kind of "mean" that would hire a strapping young Alaska woodsman to cut out your heart and shove-it-in-a-box mean. Or steal-your-boyfriend and vandalize-your-locker mean. Or all of the above. Evil-scheming mean.??
?

"Mean"
???I surely cannot be the first to point out that these two negative female archetypes have nothing in common.

Indeed, prototypical dumb blonde "Chrissy Snow" could be annoying with her snort laugh, her bleach-blond pony tails, and her knee-high suede boots. And certainly neither of her Three's Company TV roommates trusted her to get the facts straight which necessarily added to the comedy. But Chrissy would never hire someone to kill you. Dumb blondes aren't evil schemers. It's not in their stereotypical DNA. They are fairly cheerful, after all.
But just the same, and with equal measure, you would never voluntarily sign up to be roommates with the stereotypical Evil Queen. Never. I mean think about it ? She?d keep you awake all night with her creepy and conceited "mirror, mirror" routine, and if you ever suggested that she?d look a little ?more fair? without the black head hood -- she?d sic the woodsman on you or poison your Apple Jacks. The evil Queen archetype is a complete downer ? even with above-average intelligence.
So, frankly, we?re just gonna have to help liberals decide ? which negative female archetype -- ?mean? or ?stupid? -- truly describes Gov. Palin? They can have one false caricature, not both. We?ll take them one at a time with relevant facts.
Is Sarah Palin ?Stupid??The facts:Sarah Palin is the daughter of a science teacher, and worked her way through college, graduating from an accredited landgrant university with a degree in journalism, and a minor in political science.

Despite her humble origins, Sarah Palin became the youngest governor of Alaska, where she ushered in sweeping ethics reform and helped negotiate a stalled $40 billion private gas pipeline.
The above facts are indisputable, even by Sarah's political enemies. And normally, these facts alone would dispel the ?stupid? rumors but since we?re dealing with liberals, most of whom are raging sexists, we will have to continue on the "is she stupid" trail.

More facts:

Before becoming governor, Palin served two terms as the city manager of Wasilla, Alaska, a full-time executive position overseeing city finances and budgets, where she lowered business taxes, cut wasteful spending, undertook infrastructure projects, grew her city's tax base and was chosen to serve as the president of the Alaska Council of Mayors.
After leaving the governorship to spare her state from the fiscal shrapnel of more than two dozen frivolous ethics complaints, Palin wrote what has become the best-selling political memoir of all-time, given dozens of speeches to groups willing to pay up to $100,000 to hear from her, spurred a grassroots political rebellion that has shaken the political establishment to the core, all while earning a reported $12 million for her various endeavors.
I?m gonna have to go out on a limb and say ... um, Not Stupid.
So that leaves us with "mean." Shall we move on?

Is Sarah Palin ?mean??

Trig's Mom.
At age 44, Sarah Palin gave birth to a Down?s Syndrome child she named Trig after a Norse word for "strength" and she says repeatedly Trig is the ?best thing to ever happen to her.?

Again, normally, this would be enough to dispel the "mean meme", given that 90% of special-needs fetuses wind up as medical waste, but we are dealing with common sense-challenged liberals.

The ?mean? meme manifests itself in the ?Sarah is hateful? narrative. I encountered about 25 liberal protesters outside a Palin speech in Wichita, Kansas who were chanting: ?Two, four, six, eight ? Sarah Palin?s full of hate.? They must have practiced the timing on that chant for hours. Ironically, unlike these protesters who were doing nothing productive with their time, Sarah Palin was in Wichita helping to raise scholarship money for an inner-city Christian school that promotes character education. The student body president of that school was an underprivileged African American student, who presented Palin with a Calvary Cross painting designed by the students in appreciation of her visit. Who is the hateful one again?

Oh, yeah, there's these "mean" myths:

1. Sarah Palin is mean because conservatives in general, and Christians in particular are mean.

While stereotyping is forbidden by PC dogma, especially when it comes to Muslims, it?s still ok to label an entire heterogeneous group of people, ?Conservatives? and particularly ?Christian Conservatives? as mean. It?s what the left does. Conservatives, in their view, lack human empathy because they are so busy ?protecting the big bad corporations" and letting poor people "die quickly." Rarely is it mentioned that conservatives give more of their own money and time to charity than liberals. In fact, Sarah Palin gave a larger percentage of her income to charity than "lovable" Joe Biden, despite earning less.

Inherent in this claim that ?conservatives are mean? is the belief that opposing single-sex marriage is ?mean.? If that?s the case then Pres. Obama and Joe Biden are mean. Voters in the liberal states of Oregon, Maine and California are mean. Indeed, most of the world is mean because traditional marriage is the norm.

2. Sarah Palin is mean because she boldly challenges the Democrat agenda and frequently mocks Obama.

I thought dissent was the highest form of patriotism. Moreover, if mockery is mean, um, what's this?

3. Sarah Palin is mean because she is pro-life.

Apparently, more than half the country who supports life is mean. Let?s just imagine that a 20-week-old fetus is an actual ?person? for argument?s sake, shall we? If you encountered someone on the street beating the hell out of their infant and tried to stop them from killing the child, you might be hailed as a hero, right, or a child?s advocate? If you stand up for the life of a 20-week old pre-born infant, you?re considered hateful. Strange, isn?t it?

And yet Obama, who was the only legislator in Illinois to vote against providing life-saving care to infants who survive botched abortions, is not considered hateful. Hmm ...
4. Sarah Palin is hateful because she is a hunter.

And every single person who has ever eaten meat is hateful. According to McDonalds, that?s quite a few folks. Ninety-nine billion at last count.

5. Sarah Palin is mean because she inspires ?hate and racial bigotry.?

TV producer Aaron Sorkin recently told the incredibly influential Parker Spitzer duo that Sarah Palin is mean ? and idiotic and divisive. So what?s his deal with Palin? Sorkin took umbrage that Palin once told an audience in Virginia that it was great to be in the Pro-America (i.e. military-centric) parts of the country, in small towns that she believed represented ?Real America.? To him it was a personal affront to his ebullient patriotism as a martini-swilling New Yorker, the equivalent of spitting on his immigrant veteran grandfather?s grave ? or something. (We?ve heard Jon Stewart also rail about this particular Palin ?incident? from the campaign trail).
Why are liberals so angry and eternally indignant about one throw-away line at a rally two years ago that Palin has never, to my knowledge repeated?

Oh, yeah, because Palin and the majority of Americans (and the vast majority of the world) believe in legal and orderly immigration, not rampant law-breaking on our Southern borders. In fact, if Palin is mean for supporting border enforcement, then Obama is mean for claiming incredibly that we have the "most secure" border in our history, due to his excellent leadership on deporting every illegal except his Aunt Tuni. Hey, Mr. President, isn't deporting people "mean"? Somebody tell Big Sis. And maybe we should cancel the drone program. Dropping bombs on people is definitely mean.

It's impossible to truly understand the mean meme except that it's liberals' default position when confronting conservatives who are winning the political argument. I should know. I was a liberal for 14 years and considered conservatives "mean" until my husband became a conservative and I had to face the reality that stereotypes are just that - not real.

But for now, let's welcome the reprieve from the ?Palin is stupid? stereotype, to revel in the ?Palin is mean? meme. At least mean people are smart, right? C'mon liberals ... "man up" and make a choice. You can't have it both ways.
